This design draws inspiration from the controlled flow of paint found in tie dye and Japanese shibori techniques.
Using pigmented watercolours, I aimed to recreate the fluid movement of the paint and and emphasise negative spaces on paper instead of the traditionally used fabric.
After creating the painted artwork, the design was scanned, colour separated, and arranged into a production ready repeat pattern using Photoshop.
The print was licensed by mountain bike apparel brand DHaRCO and used for the jerseys of both the Commencal/Muc Off team at Downhill Mountain Bike World Cup in 2022, and the La Pierre Zip Collective Enduro World Series team in 2023.
By colour separating the design it makes it much easier for the buyer to change the colours while keeping the design intact. In this case it enabled the DHaRCO team to use the design in the four different colourways that were used during four consecutive races.
